Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has launched his global identification system called WorldID for the crypto project Worldcoin in Germany. With WorldID, people can have their iris scanned to confirm their identity online. Worldcoin plans to deploy the “Orb” iris scanner, developed in Erlangen, at various locations in the coming weeks and months. As an incentive, those who undergo the scanning process will receive a certain amount of the Worldcoin cryptocurrency. Despite privacy concerns, Worldcoin assures that the technology will be used in compliance with German and European data protection laws.
